University of Buraimi Hosts Conference on “Intellectual Security Between Sharia and Law”

The University of Buraimi hosted the conference titled “Intellectual Security Between Sharia and Law”, with broad participation from various higher education institutions across the Sultanate, in addition to representatives from government and private sector entities.

The conference was held under the patronage of Sheikh Ghosn bin Hilal bin Khalifa Al-Alawi, Chairman of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Institution.

The opening session featured keynote speeches by:

  • Dr. Khalifa bin Saif Al-Hinai (Session Chair)

  • Retired Major General Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Shaaili

  • Dr. Abdullah bin Saeed Al-Ma’amari

  • Dr. Wael bin Saif Al-Harassi

  • Dr. Saif bin Salem Al-Hadi

Following the opening, the conference continued with the presentation of 37 research papers, delivered concurrently across four halls.

The conference aimed to strengthen national identity and instill the values of citizenship in order to protect the nation and society from harmful and foreign ideologies that conflict with the principles of Islamic Sharia and Omani customs and traditions. It also sought to promote peaceful coexistence and preserve the social fabric of the nation by emphasizing principles rooted in the noble objectives of Sharia.

Given the increasing influence of social media, the conference also highlighted the need for preventive measures to shield society from intellectual infiltration.

Discussions were organized around five main themes, including:

  1. The concept of intellectual security from both Sharia and legal perspectives

  2. The role of intellectual security in enhancing national identity and loyalty

  3. Protecting society from the negative effects of social media

  4. Combating harmful and foreign ideologies

  5. The impact of such ideologies on public order
