Program Description

The Master of Engineering Management program aims to produce engineering professionals with the knowledge and skills required for promoting them as leaders in the engineering fields. The course will develop the expertise and skills to manage technology innovation across engineering industries, helping businesses respond to rapid change. The students get the knowledge to bridge the communication gap between engineering and managers. There's great demand in all industries for professionals with engineering management skills and expertise. After the course, the students will be able to take on technical and management roles in various industries.

Admission Requirements

A.    The regular Admission requirements for the Master of Engineering Management program are:

  • Completion of a recognized bachelor degree in any Engineering specialty or engineering sub-specialty with GPA 2.5 or equivalent

  • Academic IELTS 6.0 or its equivalent in the last 2 years.

B.     Conditional Admission requirements for the Master of Engineering Management program:

A student with a recognized baccalaureate degree in a discipline appropriate for the Master of Engineering Management program with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 to 2.49 on a 4.0 scale, or its established equivalent and satisfied for English requirements, he/she needs to pass the personal interview with the CoE Postgraduate Admission Committee and is recommended to take the required Pre-Master courses as per the committee.

Program Objectives
  • Develop specialist knowledge of engineering management theories, methods, practices and strategies to establish a successful engineering management careers in industry or government.

  • To Contribute to the development of the society through research, and/or and professional practices.

Student Outcomes
  • Apply knowledge of management and managerial systems along with relevant field to the engineering fields.

  • Design, simulate and conduct, as well as to analyze and interpret management systems for engineering firms.

  • Understand the impact of management aspects on engineering firms in variety of context.

  • Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering management practice.

  • Identify, formulates, and solves engineering management problems.

  • Design a management system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic,    environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, and sustainability.

  • Communicate effectively and utilize the modern technologies.

  • Understand professional and ethical responsibility.

  • Recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in life-long learning.

  • Function on multidisciplinary teams.

Career Path

The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program is for engineering graduates who are looking to enhance their skills and competencies to manage teams effectively, understand managers from other disciplines and to enable them to use their technical skills to support decision-making processes in complex engineering challenges.

The college of engineering designed and distributed a questionnaire as a part of market survey for Engineering Management program, the questionnaire has been sent to many public and private entities.

The response to the survey was positive which show the chance for the graduate to work in different public directorates and private sector companies, a sample of the response is shown in below. Three of the major engineering companies in the Sultanate of Oman have responded with a very positive reply. The responses showed the good chance of marketing the engineering management program.
