Multivariate dataset on cognitive predictors of Indian consumers` purchase intention toward circular textile products |
Imran Anwar, Mushahid Ali Shamsi, Sabiha Khatoon, Imran Saleem, Asiya Chaudhary |
2022 |
Prosperity creates extravagance. With economic development, rising consumer purchasing power, and expanding manufacturing sectors, demand for textiles and apparel is increasing daily. Unquestionably, it boosts national economies while producing unprecedented amounts of textile waste. The surge exacerbates environmental issues while also providing an opportunity to convert it into useful raw material through a circular economy (CE), a circular model in which virgin material use is reduced through reusing, recycling, and reproduction. Considering its significance, China and other Asian nations adopted this model long ago (Chen et al., 2021). However, it is still in its early stages in India, with only 1% of the material estimated to be recycled (Mehta, 2022). To reap the benefits from the circular model, the Indian textile and apparel industry must urgently transform into circular textile products (CTP), which require only a fifth of the materials and a seventh of the energy in their production compared to new products. https://www.uob.edu.om/journals/Data%20Article_CTP_Data_Frontiers_journal.pdf |
The dataset on fear of failure, entrepreneurship education, psychological and contextual predictors of entrepreneurial intention |
Imran Anwar, Prabha Thoudam, Mohammed Samroodh, Maebeama Thoudam, Imran Saleem |
2022 |
As a consequence of the shifts brought about by growing globalization, a more diverse labor force, and fast technological advancements, workplaces and organizational structures have transformed. This transformation has changed individuals' mindsets about entrepreneurship as a career choice (Sullivan and Baruch, 2009; Anwar et al., 2022) and given entrepreneurship a nod over other employment alternatives (Edelman et al., 2016). As a result, entrepreneurship became one of the most talked-about job possibilities for the younger generation. Governments and educational institutions are putting more emphasis on fostering entrepreneurship. Student entrepreneurship is also being studied as an alternative to the creation of entrepreneurial ambitions by researchers (Anwar et al., 2020; Hassan et al., 2020). Many people have entrepreneurial goals, but research shows that only a small percentage follow through with their plans. Understanding the elements that contribute to entrepreneurial intentions and how these factors might translate intentions into behavior is becoming more important. https://www.uob.edu.om/journals/Frontiers_in_Psychology_Data_Report_Article_journal.pdf |
Passionate, motivated and creative yet not starting up: A moderated-moderation approach with entrepreneurship education and fear of failure as moderators |
Prabha Thoudam, Imran Anwar, Ermal Bino, Maebeama Thoudam, Ahanthem Malemnganbi Chanu, Imran Saleem |
2022 |
This research attempts to measure the direct and moderated influence of entrepreneurial passion (EP), motivation (EM)
and creativity (EC) on intention (EI) while being moderated by entrepreneurship education (EE). This study also in-
strumentalizes the conditional interaction effect of fear of failure on the moderated paths. A data sample of 1090 business
students from five Indian universities was subjected to screening and cleaning before establishing the measurement model
and testing the hypotheses using structural equation modelling and Process Macro. EP, EM and EC were found to affect EI
directly, while EE also moderated these links. Fear of failure was also found to be conditioning the moderated paths such
that the positive moderation effect of EE on direct paths between EP, EM, EC and EI was stronger when students perceived
no fear of failure. The study advances the existing literature on the moderating role of entrepreneurship education by
recognizing the conditional interaction effect (moderated-moderation) of fear of failure on the moderating effects of
entrepreneurship education. The authors also provide valuable suggestions for practice. https://www.uob.edu.om/journals/IHE_Moderated_Moderation_Paper_journal.pdf |
Impact Assessment of Ease and Usefulness of Online Teaching in Higher Education in Post COVID Era |
Imran Saleem, Mushahid Ali Shamsi, Hesham Magd |
2022 |
During COVID-19 and its resulting lockdown, the sudden closure of traditional offline classes resulted in the loss of education. Consequently, teaching pedagogies were unexpectedly changed, and a sudden shift towards online teaching was necessitated. The extensive availability of devices and applications made this shift easy. Nevertheless, all teachers were not equally equipped with the equivalent knowledge and resources, which could have affected their behavioral intention to continue online teaching in the future. This paper investigates the perception of university teachers to continue online teaching in higher education post-COVID. To accomplish this target, a mixed research approach was adopted. For quantitative data, 243 questionnaires were successfully collected from teachers of the top five central universities in India, using an online survey through Google forms by integrating the technology acceptance model (TAM). For qualitative data, online-focused group discussions (FGDs) with around seven teachers from different nations’ universities were done. This study is cross-sectional, utilizing TAM factors for ascertaining teachers’ behavioral intentions in India. All hypotheses were found significant by applying PLS-based SEM using smart-PLS software. This indicates that perceived usefulness and ease of use significantly impact attitude towards online teaching; further, perceived usefulness and attitude towards online teaching also significantly affect the behavioral intention of teachers to continue online teaching post-COVID era. The study helps educational institutions and respective national policymakers to define the future course of action in the education sector. https://www.uob.edu.om/journals/IJIET-V13N1-1785-IJIET-5180_journal.pdf |
Human Resource Management Practices as Antecedents of Employee Competencies: Empirical Evidence from the Banking Industry |
Mohammad Salman, Imran Saleem, Showkat Ahmad Ganie |
2022 |
Drawing upon the human capital theory, this article articulates the impact of different human resource management (HRM) practices on various dimensions of employee competence in the Indian context. The survey method was employed to collect data from 325 banking employees including managers and non- managers employed in the State Bank of India, the Bank of Baroda, the Housing Development Finance Corporation and the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India. The self-competence, team competence and social competence are the dimensions of employee competencies and HRM practices include recruitment and selection, training and development, employee involvement and performance appraisal. The validity and reliability of the variables are evaluated through the confirmatory factor analysis and the hypotheses are tested using structural equation modelling. The study’s analysis revealed mixed results wherein a significant and positive impact was found between some HRM practices and employee competencies and an insignificant impact between other HRM practices and employee competencies. https://www.uob.edu.om/journals/0258042x221138362_MLS_journal.pdf |
Does Social Legitimacy Matter in an Indian’s Decision to Start a New Venture? |
Adil Khan, Mohd Yasir Arafat, Imran Saleem |
2022 |
This study aims to explain the determinants of entrepreneurship among Indian individuals. The researchers have examined the role of social (legitimacy) and personal (personality, competency and financial resources) factors related to an individual’s new venture creation in India. This study utilises the data set of 3,403 Indian respondents from the latest available individual-level data collected by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. Binary logistic regression has been employed to test the study’s proposed hypotheses. The results indicate that constructs related to financial resources, entrepreneurial personality and entrepreneurial competencies significantly predict the individual’s decision to start a new venture. However, in contrast to many previous studies, factors related to social legitimacy (social status and professional attraction) were not significant in determining the start-up decision. Policy implications have been discussed. https://www.uob.edu.om/journals/23939575221087336_journal.pdf |
